THE LORD IS OUR SHEPHERD
The Bible psalmist, David, wrote in the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd.” The Lord Jesus Christ said: “ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).
THE BIBLE ADDS COMMENTS TO THE 23rd PSALM ABOUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST BEING OUR SHEPHERD:
1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Jesus said those who are my sheep “will keep My commandments” (John 14:15)
But he said to some who don’t obey him, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).
For my people shall live “on every word that comes from the mouth of God'” (Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).)
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
The Lord assures his followers: “God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” ( John 10:11).
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 316
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
The words of God say: “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8)
However, the Lord said, I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you (Luke 10:19).
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39).
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
‘On the night [Jesus] was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me”’ (1 Corinthians 11:23-25).
Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22).
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Shepherd said: “My Father’s house has many rooms…I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:2-3).
