TESTIFYING OF JESUS POWER TO SAVE
The Bible says: There are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement…And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:7-11). The Spirit empowers believers in the Son, Jesus Christ, to testify to others that they might believe and have eternal life (Acts 1:8; Act 2).
THE SPIRIT TESTIFYING OF JESUS SAVING BLOOD
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins… and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us).” (Matthew 1:21-23).
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:5-7).
THE SPIRIT TESTIFYING BY WATER
The Lord’s angel said of John who was to testify of and reveal God’s promise Messianic Savior, “he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born” (Luke 1:15);
When it was time for God to reveal Jesus, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
John said, “I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.” (John 1:31-34).
THE SPIRIT, BLOOD AND WATER AGREEING IN TESTIFYING
When Jesus was dying on the cross as a sacrificial atonement for our sins (Romans 6:23; John 3:16), “One of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water” (John 19:34).
The Spirit-inspired Word of God says:
- “The blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:24)
- For whoever repents and confesses their sins, the blood of Jesus Christ “cleanses us from all sin and unrighteousness” (1 John 1:7-9).
- “Water symbolizes baptism that now saves you…” (1 Peter 3:21). “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12).
- Whoever accepts Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, receives “washing with water through the word” (Ephesians 5:26).
- “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
OUR TESTIFYING OF JESUS POWER TO SAVE
When we accepts Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we are washed in his blood, baptized with water through the Word, and filled with his Spirit. Being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, we become a living testimony of the Lord’s power to save (1 Corinthians 3:16). He empowers us to go and tell others of his power to save from sin, and give eternal life to all who repent and believe in the Son of God (Mark 16:15-16; John 3:16).
