SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES for…
Today there are many religious teachers who communicate by internet, mass media, books, pulpits…but how will you know who is telling the truth? Jesus Christ said there would be many false prophets who would deceive many people (Matthew 24:11). But the Lord said “search the Scriptures” for the truth (John 5:39; 14:6).
MORE REASONS FOR SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES
Jesus used the Scriptures to defeat the devil (Matthew 4:1-11)—the father of lies (John 8:44). And Jesus said people should live by “every word” of God Mathew 4:4).
The Lord tells us that except the chosen people of God know and follow his words they may be deceived (Matthew 24:24). However, he assures those who hear and obey God’s words no one can take them out of his hand (John 10:27-28).
The Bibles says: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
Berean believers “ examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul [the Lord’s chosen apostle] said was true” (Acts 17:11). The apostle commend them for searching the Scripture about what he said.
The Lord’s Psalmist said “[God’s] word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).
HOW TO SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES
The Bible encourages people to study to have a right understanding of “the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). And pray for guidance of the Holy Spirit, for “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in [Jesus] name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26 NIV).
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
