GOD’S PASSOVER LAMB
God said “when I see the blood [of the lamb] I will pass over you” regarding judgment (Exodus 12:13; Hebrews 9:22).
GOD PASSED OVER HIS PEOPLE IN THE PAST WHEN HE SAW THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB:
God was about to destroy many people of Egypt because they would not listen to him; but he planned to spare chosen people of Israel. God told the people of Israel each household was to take the blood of a slain unblemished lamb and put some of it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of their houses where they ate the lambs, and “when I see the blood I will pass over you.”
Then, God told the people of Israel: “This is a day [Passover] you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance” (Exodus 12).
GOD PASSES OVER PEOPLE TODAY WHEN HE SEES THE BLOOD OF HIS SON:
The blood of the unblemished lamb in the Old Testament may be seen as relating to the “Passover” blood of Jesus Christ, the unblemished Son of God. Jesus is revealed by God as “the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world,” to take away the sins of the world (Revelation 13:8). For the consequence of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
Jesus revealed himself as our Passover Lamb before dying on a cross for the sins of whoever believes him as the Bible says. While the Lord was eating his last Passover supper with his disciples: “Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Matthew 26:26-29).
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
