RECOGNIZING THE LORD BY HIS WORKS
The inspired written Word of God tells us how to recognize the Lord God by his works. And it tells us—even though we are at a distance from God—how we can obey and have an intimate relationship with the Lord (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
RECOGNIZING THE LORD BY HIS WORKS OF CREATION
The biblically inspired Word of God reveals the Lord God as the God of all creation.
The Bible says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:1-3). And “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16).
Nevertheless, the Bible says some people have refused to acknowledge the Lord and give him the glory for his works as God of creation. God’s Word says these are people “who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse… “ (Romans 1:18-20). Furthermore, God has sent his Son to make himself more clearly known to people. For “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (John 1:18).
RECOGNIZING GOD BY HIS WORKS OF MIRACLES
The Bible reveals “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him” (Acts 10:38).
- The Lord calmed a stormy sea, demonstrating power over the physical universe, which he spoke into existence. He got up from sleeping on a boat, “rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:35-41).
- He manifested power over the devil and the spirit world: He healed “people who were under the power of the devil; and casted demons out of people. (Acts 10:38; Mark 5:1-11).
- He raised people from the dead showing he has power over life and death: He raised people to life, like a man name Lazarus who had been dead for four days. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die” (John 11:17-44).
- After Jesus was crucified and buried for three days he rose from the dead to die no more (1 Corinthians 15:4; Revelation 1:18).
- Many eye-witnesses saw Jesus do things demonstrating that he is God’s Son (John 20:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8). They witnessed him proving that he is God’s promised Messianic Savior of the world, in fulfilling all Bible prophecies concerning the Savior (Luke 24:44-48).
- The disciple said: “Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” John 20:30-31).
- The Lord said: “If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, [some] have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father” (John 15:24). “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:10-12).
RECOGNIZING THE LORD BY HIS WORKS OF SALVATION
The Bible says: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16)
“God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8). For “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)- “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Jesus demonstrated he is the divine Son of God with power of and over creation,; power to save form sin; power to resurrect from the dead- “He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).
