BEING HOLY LIKE OUR LORD
The Holy Bible says: “we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all,”by believing in the Son of God as the Bible says (John 3:16; Hebrews 10:10). And “just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:15). For God planned for believers “be conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8:29):
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST WAS HOLY IN ALL THAT HE DID.
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and overcame temptations of the devil, in obeying “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus lived without sin in this world, although he was tempted in all things like we are (Hebrews 4:15). He always did what was pleasing to God, our Holy Father (John 8:29). Even when he was faced with the agony of dying on the cross for the sins of the world, he prayed to the Father for strength to do “not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
WE SHOULD BE HOLY LIKE JESUS IN ALL WE DO.
The inspired biblical Word of God, with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit (John 14:15-17), enables believers to be “thoroughly equipped” to be like Jesus in all they do (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Jesus said, “Search the scriptures, for…these are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). The following are just some scriptures that may help us to be more like the Lord Jesus Christ. However, for a fuller understanding of scriptures, which tells us how to know and be like his Son, the Bible instructs believers to “study” God’s written words (2 Timothy 2:15; John 6:40):
OBEY THE WORD OF GOD.
- Jesus said, all the requirements of God hang on the two greatest commandments: First, “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; second, “love one another, as I have loved you” (Luke 10:27; John 13:34).
- Live by every word of God. (Matthew 4:4; Proverbs 3:5-6).
- Be willing to deny yourself and take up your cross daily and follow the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 9:23).
- Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles (Hebrews 12:1).
- Draw near to God—Resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7).
- If you fall, confess your sin; God is faithful and just and will forgive your sin and purify us from all unrighteousness, because of the atonement of his Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:9).
- Become transformed to the likeness of Jesus (Romans 8:29)
PRAY AND CONSTANTLY COMMUNICATE WITH GOD.
- Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
- The Lord said, “apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
- Meditate on the Word of God day and night (Psalm 1:1-2).
- Whatever things are right, pure, praiseworthy think about such things (Philippians 4:8).
ACCEPT THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
- Jesus sent us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide into all truth (John 14:15-17; 16:13-14).
- The Holy Spirit strengthens and enables us to do what seems impossible for us to do (Luke 18:27; Acts 1:8).
- The Holy Spirit determines when it is necessary to disciple us as God’s children, because “the Lord disciplines the ones he loves,” to save our eternal relationship with him (Hebrews 12:6-11).
Every one of us who is holy like Jesus Christ according to the Word of God, will rejoice to see the Lord when he returns to take us to live with him forever. (John 14:3; 16:22).
