Opportunities For Doing Good
The biblical word of God says: “as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people”” (Galatians 6:10). Because of God’s great love for all people, he gave his Son to die for the sins of the world (John 3:16). The biblical word of God encourages us be thankful for the opportunity to do good works for the Lord and those he loves.
Even though the Lord God asks us to do good works, he tells us, “No one is good except God alone” (Mark 10:18). For it is by God’s grace we are now saved through faith in Jesus Christ; not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9). But God rewards us for our good works that are aligned with his word (I Corinthians 3:13-14).
THE GOOD SAMARITAN IS A BIBLE EXAMPLE OF HAVING OPPORTUNITY TO DO GOOD WORK.
In the Bible a “Good Samaritan” did what he could to help a man who had been beaten and left for dead; although other people had seen him but passed him by. The Good Samaritan took time to bandaged the man’s wounds, and took him to an inn to care for him. When the Good Samaritan left, he gave the innkeeper some money to continue caring for the wounded man; and told the innkeeper whatever is owed, on his way back he would pay. (Luke 10:25-37).
THE BIBLE SAYS JESUS THE SON OF GOD WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD.
In Acts 10:38, The Bible tells God’s Son, “Jesus of Nazareth…went about doing good.”
In John 8:3-11, on an occasion when Jesus was speaking to a crowd: “the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
Other Scriptures of the Bible tell us more about the goodness of Jesus, the Son of God, who sacrificed his life to save us from sin (Philippians 2:6-8): For “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)—”The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).—“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
GOD GIVES BELIEVERS OPPORTUNITY TO DO GOOD AND BE REWARDED.
Our Lord God gives believers opportunity to do good work for him and others in may ways. Because of the great divine love and goodness he has shown us (1 John 4:19), we are encouraged to be thankful and willing to love him with all our heart and love others as he has loved us (Luke 10:27; John 13:34). The Lord said, whatever you do for the least of his brothers and sisters, “you [do] for me” (Matthews 25:40).
The biblical word of God tells us ways believers are given opportunities to do good: “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit(H) distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone(I) it is the same God(J) at work” (I Corinthians 12:4-6 NIV).
I thank the Lord that the Spirit has given me gifts to work with his people in various ways. Through praying, the Spirit has led and given me opportunity to work with people in some of the following ways: work compassionately with people in drug and alcohol and prison rehab programs; visit sick people in homes and shut-in facilities; do outreach to unbelievers with the gospel of Jesus Christ for their salvation as the Spirit leads at home and abroad….
In your praying and recognizing more clearly the gifts the Spirit of God has given you, the Spirit will give you more opportunity to use your gifts in situations where you will be able do increasingly do good works for the Lord and his people
Anything we do or give up for our Savior and Lord, he promised he will give us “a hundred times as much in this present age… and in the age to come eternal life” in heaven with God (Mark 10:29-30; John 14:3).
