BLESSED IN DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY
The Bible reveals that God made man and woman with the ability to have sex, and reproduce (Genesis 1:26-27). However, because of conditions today some may wonder if having sex is more of a blessing or curse. For the biblical Word of God say: “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrew 13:4). Yet, God works all things for good for those who love and obey the Lord (Romans 8:28).
God’s great love for people caused him to give his Son to die on a cross to save believers from their sins. And his great love also causes him to informs them of the blessing of obeying, and consequences of disobeying him (John 3:16-18). In doing this God tries to help people avoid the consequences of disobeying God; and show them how they may be redeemed if they should disobey him.
THE BIBLE SHOWS DAVID AS AN EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE WHO SUFFERED FOR NOT DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY.
KING DAVID SUFFERED AFTER COMMITTING ADULTERY. King David, whom God called “a man after my own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14), chose on an occasion to do his own thing, and suffered much for it. He committed adultery with a beautiful woman named Bathsheba, while her husband was away fighting in the army. After David discovered Bathsheba was pregnant with his child, he had her husband killed on the front line of battle to cover up his adultery. For his sins, God allowed David to have grievous problems in his family all his life. And David said his guilt and problems were “too heavy to bear” (Psalm 38:4). Yet, because of God’s love, he forgave David when he confessed and repented of his sins (2 Samuel 12:1-24; Psalm 51:4).
DAVID’S SON RAPED HIS HALF-SISTER. By deceit, David’s son Amnon raped Tamar, his half- sister. He pretended to be sick, and persuaded David to have Tamar to feed him while he was in bed. But when Tamar came to feed him, he grabbed and demanded that she come to bed with him. However, Tamar pled, “Please, just speak to the king about it, and he will let you marry me.”
But Amnon wouldn’t listen to her, and since he was stronger than she was, he raped her. 15 Then suddenly Amnon’s love turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. “Get out of here!” he snarled at her.”
DAVID’S SON KILLED THE SON WHO RAPED HIS SISTER. When Tamar’s brother Absalom found out that Amnon raped his sister, he sought revenge. He set up a party, and convinced King David to let all of his brother attend. But when Amnon was drunk at the party, in revenge, Absalom had his men kill Amnon. (2 Samuel 13).
David said his guilt and problems were “too heavy to bear” (Psalm 38:4)
THE BIBLE SHOWS HOW GOD FORGAVE DAVID, ALTHOUGH HE DESERVED TO DIED.
Because of David’s sins, God allowed David to have grievous problems in his family all his life; but God did not take David’s life as he deserved (Deuteronomy 19:21). Because of God’s love and mercy he forgave David when he confessed and repented of his sins (2 Samuel 12:1-24; Psalm 51:4).
TODAY, THE BIBLE ADVISES PEOPLE ON HAVING SEX AND DOING THINGS GOD’S APPROVED WAY.
The Bible shows that people who have sex God’s approved way experience the benefits and pleasure of his approval; and avoid the problems of doing things their own ungodly way.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS PEOPLE MAY AVOID BY HAVING SEX AND DOING THINGS GOD WAY:
- They may avoid having guilt and pain “too heavy to bear,” As David experience.
- Avoid a deep sense of separation from God: “Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).
- Avoid trying to hide and denial of one’s sin. “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). For all disobedience is sin, including fornication and adultery (James 2:10-11; 1 John 3:4).
- Not feel the need to deal with this sin; knowing all disobedience is sin, including fornication and adultery (James 2:10-11; 1 John 3:4).
- Not think it’s a God-given right to have an abortion. For the Bible informs people that God said, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5). And “All souls are mine”– “For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child–both alike belong to me” (Ezekiel 18:4).
However, because of God’s love and mercy God said: “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). And If we [repentantly] confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9; Luke 13:3).
THESE ARE SOME BLESSINGS PEOPLE MAY EXPERIENCE WHEN THEY HAVE SEX AND DO THINGS GOD’S WAY.
God said: “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous” (Hebrews 13:4).
Flee from sexual immorality…Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
Doing everything, including having sex, God’s way is blessed and best for all. For God work all things together for good for those who obey him (Romans 8:28; Proverbs 3:5-6).
