GOD IS WILLING TO FORGIVES OUR SINS…
The biblical Word of God says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness,” because of the atoning blood of his Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:7-9).
THE BIBLE SHOWS THAT GOD FORGAVE A WOMAN WITH MANY SINS.
A WOMAN WITH MANY SINS came and knelt at Jesus’ feet, cried, washed his feet with her tears, dried his feet with hair and anointed them with precious perfume. Jesus forgave all of her sins (Luke7:47-48).
Jesus encourages us to put aside any pride or fear of rejection, and come to him just as you are for his forgiveness. He said: “ every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit” (Matthew 12:31).
THE BIBLE SHOWS THAT GOD FORGAVE HIS DISCIPLE WHO DENIED HIM
PETER, A DISCIPLE OF THE LORD, felt guilty after denying three times that he knew the Lord Jesus Christ, when he was falsely arrested by Jewish leaders. Guilt from his denial caused Peter to weep grievously (John 18:15-27). After Jesus was crucified and resurrected, he allowed Peter three chances to affirm his love for the Lord. Jesus forgave him. (John 21:15). Then the Lord filled Peter with the Holy Spirit and used him to boldly preach the gospel on the day of Pentecost to many Jews who had participated in the crucifixion of Jesus. Peter fearlessly told them: “God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36).
The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
WE NEED TO BELIEVE THE LORD IS WILLING TO FORGIVE ALL OUR SINS.
Jesus said, “Every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven” (Matthew 12:31-32). Nevertheless, Judas evidently did not believe Jesus. Judas committed suicide after having betrayed the Lord (Matthew 27:3-5).
A participant in a substance abuse treatment program where I counseled, needed to know the Lord loved him enough to die for his sins, and would forgive if he confessed his sins. The participant said he felt guilty about having committed so many bad sins. He said several times he waded into deep water because he “felt like ending it all,” He apparent was not aware of, or was not convinced that the Lord would forgive him, as Jesus had forgiven the woman with many sins (Luke 7:44-47).
He needed to know that Jesus is willing and “is able to save to the uttermost” those who come to him (Mat. 12:31; Hebrews 7:25).
I told him what the biblical Word of God said about God’s love and forgiveness:
- All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
- The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[ Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).
- God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
- For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
The Bible tells us that when we confess our sins, God is willing to forgive us all our sins (Matthew 5:11-12); and fill us with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).
“The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:8-9).
It is not the Lord’s will that we disobey or deny him because we know he loves us (Romans 6:23). He has given us as his followers the Holy Spirit to help us obey him (John 14:15-17). Still, because of the atoning blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when we repent and confess our sins, God will always forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
