GOD’S LAST DAYS MESSENGER
Many people today seem to wonder “who is God’s true messenger?” For there are many preachers and teachers today who do not completely align with the “inspired” biblical Word of God, who claim to be messengers from God. The Bible, the written Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), clearly states: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son… After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (Hebrews 1:1-3).
IN THE PAST GOD SPOKE THROUGH HIS PROPHET MOSES
God chose Moses to lead his people out of captivity in Egypt. To show he had chosen Moses as his leader and spokesman, God performed miracles through Moses—brought plagues upon Egypt, opened the Red Sea, caused water to come out of a rock in the desert when the people were thirsty.
“When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God” (Exodus 31:18). The law was given as a temporary measure, until God’s Son Jesus Christ should come. “For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:2-4).
IN THE PAST GOD SPOKE THROUGH HIS PROPHET ELIJAH
The Lord used his prophet Elijah miraculously in a contest with the prophets of Baal, a false god, to prove who the true God was. The contest involved setting up different altars and asking their god/ God to consume their sacrifice by fire. The prophets of Baal prayed all day but he did not answer. Then Elijah prayed: “Answer me, O LORD! Answer me, so that this people will know that You, the LORD, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell facedown and said, “The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!” (1 Kings 18:38).
IN THESE LAST DAYS GOD HAS SPOKEN THOUGH HIS SON JESUS
Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:1-5).
- Jesus says: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
- After Jesus was crucified and resurrected, he told his disciples: “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
- Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. (Mark 24:44-48).
- According to Jesus’ eyewitness-disciples, who wrote about what he said and did: “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book [the Bible]. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:30-31).
Nevertheless, the written Word of God informs us that there are false prophets in these last days, as there were false prophets in the biblical past. God’s prophet Jeremiah wrote of false prophets who told people what they wanted to hear (Jeremiah 14:14). The Lord’s apostle Paul wrote that in the last days some “people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions” (2 Timothy 4:3). Paul said, “They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”
Jesus tells us: “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
IN THESE LAST DAYS GOD GAVE HIS SON TO DIE TO SAVE US FROM SIN
The Bibles says, “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
But Jesus spoke to some about people who perished because of their sins, when he told them, “unless you repent, you too will all perish” (Luke 13:3).
Yet God is “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). And “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth
The Lord knows that “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians6:2). And “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth…[about] Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).
Knowing that “whoever does not believe will be condemned,” our loving Savior and Lord Jesus Christ urges his loving believers: Pray for “all people” (1 Timothy 2:1). And “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever [repents and] believes and is baptized [with his Spirit] will be saved.” (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38). Our Savior and Lord will come to take all who repent and believe in him as his Word says, to live with God eternally (John 14:3).
