The God “inspired” biblical scriptures affirms Jesus Christ as God the Son, and defends Him as the only way to God the Father (2 Timothy 3:16): “In the beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3, 14). He “and the Father are one”—“the only true God” (John 10:30; John 17:3). He “ is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” Hebrews 1:1-3).
“Though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:6-8). In dying on a cross he atoned for the sins of mankind (Romans 6:23; John 3:16-18). After he miraculously rose from the dead, having fulfilled all prophecies concerning God’s promised Savior of the world (Luke 24:44-48); he ascended into heaven in the presence of his disciples (Acts 1:1-11).
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Nevertheless, contrary to the inspired Word of God, there are many today who say Jesus is just a god among gods; and that he is not the only way to God the Father of heaven. But Jesus told us, “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name saying, “I am the Christ,” and will deceive many”’ (Matthew 24:4-5). “ For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect,” about the way to the God of heaven. (Matthew 24:24-25).
The God of the Bible has done much to help people see Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as the only way to God the Father. He has inspired prophets and apostles to write scriptures for people to study his Word and know the truth (2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17). He has called preachers and gifted teachers and workers as helpers (Romans 10:14; Ephesians 4:11). He has given the Holy Spirit to believers to guide us into all truth about the Lord (John 16:13-15).
A BIBLE “DEFENSE” OF JESUS’ ONLY WAY TO GOD
Believing what the Bible said about Jesus being God the Son, the only way to God the Father, a gifted preacher-teacher named Dr. Erwin W Lutzer endeavors to highlight some of the Bible’s defense of Jesus as the only way to God. Dr. Lutzer has been recognized by The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as “clear expositor of the Bible.” Lutzer wrote a book based on the Bible, to make it clear that the Scriptures affirm Jesus Christ as the only Divine Son and only way to God the Father of heaven. Lutzer,s book is entitled Christ Among Other gods: A Defense of Christ in an Age of Tolerance.
Dr. Lutzer says he wrote this book to enlighten the Lord’s people, after attending The Parliament of World Religions and learning that there is a world-wide effort to promote the idea that there are many “valid” ways to God other than Jesus.
REVEALING RELIGIONS THAT DON’T TEACH JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY
After having attended The Parliament of World Religions, Dr. Lutzer exposed the following about their unbiblical teachings that says Jesus Christ is not the only way to God, but that there are many ways:
- According to Dr. Lutzer, The Parliament of World Religions promotes the idea of recognizing all religions as ways to God.
- Swami Chindanansa of the Divine Life Society, representing Eastern religious ideas, told the Doctor, ”there are many effective equally valid religions.”
- As an affirmation of their own divinity, delegates at The Parliament shouted together, “I AM” —a name Almighty God uses to identify himself (Exodus 3:14; John 8:58).
- The Doctor said, he asked a pastor at a banquet, “do you believe Christ is the only way to God?” And “do you believed all the religions of the world are equally valid?” The response to both questions were, “of course!” But later the pastor whispered, “when I speak about Christ, I’m not talking about the Jesus of Nazareth!” The Doctor said the pastor believed in a cosmic Christ who dwells in everyone, who unifies many different religious ideas, but Is not a Savior who take you to where you ought to go ( p 137-138).
SHEDDING LIGHT ON “CHRISTIANS” UNITING WITH RELIGIONS THAT DON’T TEACH JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY
- THE WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES, largely an ecumenical Protestant group of churches, “stresses that only through religious dialogue amid the diversity of the world religions is it possible to see the totality of God’s revelation” (p26).
- THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT is seen as moving toward “unity” with world-wide religions. Dr. Lutzer said since Vatican II, the papacy has “been known to pray with Hindus, Buddhists, and representatives of other faiths” (p26).
- NEW AGE/NEW SPRITUALITY MOVEMENT. Dr. Lutzer said people of this worldwide movement see themselves as gods; and see Jesus as “Christ among other gods.” They “stripped Jesus of his Deity.” They are “tolerant of…hedonistic pleasures” that the Bible calls sin; and are attracting many away from Jesus the only true God (Romans 1:18-28).
The Bible quotes Jesus as saying: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one come unto the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
According to Dr. Lutzer, a Pew Research Center survey reported that among religious of Americans, “seven-in-ten say many religions can lead to eternal life;” and “more than half of members of evangelical Protestant churches (57%)” share this view.
OUR USING THE BIBLE IN DEFENSE OF JESUS CHRIST BEING THE ONLY WAY TO GOD
The Bible reveals extraordinary things about Jesus that shows he is the only divine Son of God; the Christ who came In the flesh and died for the sins and the salvation of mankind; the one who is far above all others on earth and in heaven; the one who is the only way to God the Father. Lutzer points out many of the extraordinary things about Jesus the Son of God:
- Jesus’ extraordinary birth—He was conceived of the Holy Spirit by a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Phil. 2:6-8).
- His extraordinary life—His works of miracles which no other man did—raising the dead, calming raging seas, casting out devils, etc. John 15:24).
- His extraordinary authority—God the father distinguished Jesus from other prophets like Moses and Elijah, in stating “this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear him” (Matthew 17:1-5).
- His extraordinary death—He died for our sins and was pierced for our iniquities as prophesied in the Holy Bible (Isaiah 5:25; John 19:34-35).
- His extraordinary resurrection—Many people witnessed his resurrection after his being crucified on a cross and being buried in a sealed tomb. Paul wrote: “He appeared to Cephas, then the twelve…to more than five hundred brethren at one…then to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all…he appeared to me” (1Corinthians 15:3-8)
- His extraordinary ascension into heaven—Which was witnessed. by his apostles (Acts 1:9-11).
- His extraordinary return—which was promised by the Lord, his angels, and is apostles (John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1Thessalonians 4:15-16).
In defense of Christ in our age of tolerance, we have an extraordinary opportunity and responsibility to teach and preach the Bible-gospel truth of Jesus Christ. Tell others that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is “the way, the truth, and the life”— the only way to God the Father of eternal life (John 3:16; John 14:6).
