KNOWING YOUR PURPOSE FOR EXISTING
Many people wonder “What is my purpose for exiting?” The Bible states that “by Him [Jesus Christ] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible…All things were created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16; John 1:1-4). But There are many book written about finding purpose and self-fulfillment that do not focus primarily on Jesus as the reason for being and the way of self-fulfillment. However, the written Word of God says: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
NON-BIBLICAL BOOKS ON FINDING YOUR PURPOSE
One of many non-biblical books and teachings on finding your purpose is The Path Made Clear. In the introduction to this book, Oprah Winfrey says, if you ask “what is my purpose” on the internet, you may get countless replies. She states, “I know for sure what I am here to do.” And she says, she hopes with her book to share wisdom she learned from visionaries who have traveled the path before you. She tells us, there is no need to wonder what your purpose is–“It’s yours for the finding. When you are ready.”
Many other non-biblical books and teachings promise you can find self-fulfillment without fundamentally focusing on Jesus Christ. Although this fulfillment may not be lasting (as the Bible assures you–John3:16), many teach that you can reach a state of satisfaction by primarily thinking and acting positively on the things in this life. These things include self-perception, career, money, position, recognition, family, friends and the world in general.
THE BIBLE ON KNOWING YOUR PURPOSE
HEBREWS 1:1-3. In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
JOHN 3:16. God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
JOHN 14:6. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
COLOSSIANS 3:1-2 Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
MATTHEW 6:33. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [earthly] things will be given to you as well. (Jeremiah 29:13).
ROMANS 8:29. Those God foreknew would seek and find his Son, “he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8:29).
JOHN 14:2-3. Our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ said: “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
