HOLY HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN
The high and holy Lord God said: “a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it.” (Isaiah 35:8; 57:15). For without holiness no one shall see God (Hebrew 12:14). However, God loves us so much, he has provided directions on the way to heaven (John 3:16; 14:6).
BECOMING HOLY
“The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). And “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
To those who repent and believe in God’s Son Jesus Christ he gives the power of the Holy Spirit to be holy as God is holy. (John 14:15-17; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 1:15-16).
HOLY IN THE WAY YOU THINK
The biblical Word of God, with the Holy Spirit, instructs and helps us to think like God:
- Meditate on the biblical words of God day and night (Joshua 1:8; Matthews 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17.
- Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2).
- Be not conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2).
- Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on such things (Philippians 4:8).
HOLY IN THE WAY YOU BEHAVE
God’s Word and Spirit also help us to behave like God:
- Live by every word of God (Matthew 4:4).
- Be conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, as God planned for those who repent and believe in his only begotten Son (Romans 8:29).
- Let us cleanse and purify ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness in our reverence of God (2 Corinthians 7:1).
- The Word lists several things that we should cleanse and purify ourselves from, with the help of the Holy Spirit–sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 22:19-21).
THE WAY TO HEAVEN
The Holy Spirit produces holy things in us–love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those who possess these characteristics of Christ Jesus the Son of God are on the holy highway to heaven (Galatians 5:22-23).
