DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY
The Holy Bible says, we should live by “every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Regarding marriage, it says: “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled, but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrew 13:4). Doing sex or anything other than God’s way causes a world of problems. Doing things God way is always best for all.
PROBLEMS FROM NOT DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY
ADAM AND EVE. “God created man in his own image…male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply.” Furthermore, he provided for all their needs in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 1:27-29). But told them not eat the fruit of a particular tree lest they die. However, they disobeyed God, and died spiritually and physically, separated from God. (Genesis 3; Romans 5:12; 1 Timothy 5:6). Yet, because of God’s love for mankind, he provided them a way of redemption through the offspring of the woman–Jesus (Genesis 3:15; Matthew 1:21)
KING DAVID. Their descendant, King David, whom God called “a man after my own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14), chose on an occasion to do his own thing, and suffered much for it. He committed adultery with a beautiful woman named Bathsheba, while her husband was away fighting in the army. After David discovered Bathsheba was pregnant with his child, he had her husband killed on the front line of battle to cover up his adultery. For his sins, God allowed David to have grievous problems in his family all his life. And David said his guilt and problems were “too heavy to bear” (Psalm 38:4). Yet, because of God’s love, he forgave David when he confessed an repented of his sins (2 Samuel 12:1-24; Psalm 51:4).
DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY AVOIDS PROBLEMS
The following are some of the problems we may avoid by doing things God way.
- Dealing with a deep sense of separation from God: “Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).
- Experiencing feelings of guilt and pain “too heavy to bear.”
- Dealing with sins as stated in the Bible: All disobedience is sin which violates God’s law, including fornication and adultery (James 2:10-11; 1 John 3:4).
- Dealing with the issue of abortion: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5).
- Denial of one’s sin. “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).
BENEFITS OF DOING THINGS GOD’S WAY
If we are willing to do what God says, we can avoid many problems and benefit in many ways. God will make us part of his kingdom, take care of our needs and give us the desires of our heart (Matthew 6:33; Psalm 37:4). He will enable us to do his will by the power of the Holy Spirit given those who have repented and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord (John 14:16; Philippians 4:13).
It is God’s plans to grow us into the likeness of his Son Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). However, if in our earnest endeavoring to be like him we fall short; God says if we repent and confess our sins, he will “forgive all our sins” (1 John 1:9).
He will do this because his only begotten Son Jesus Christ died on a cross for the sins of whoever chooses to do things God’s way (John 3:16). And because of your doing things God’s way, he has prepared a place for you to live with God in heaven forever (John 14:2-3).
