PRAYING DURING A CRISIS
The Bible says, whom the Lord loves he chastens (Hebrews 12:6). However, If anything happens, especially to the people of God, (who rules all things Psalm 103:19) it’s because he permits or causes it. Is the current world crisis God’s way of telling the world that they need to recognize him as God and turn to him for help?
God sent word to the people Nineveh, who did not recognize him as the only true God, that he was going to destroy them because of their great wickedness. But when they believed him, prayed and repented, God stayed his judgment (Jonah 3).
God tells his people who recognize him as the only true God: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (John 17:3; 2 Chronicles 7:14).
God saw David as a man after God’s own heart. But understanding his human inclination to sin, David asked God to search him and see if there was any wickedness in him, and lead him in God’s way (1 Samuel 13:14;Psalm 139:23-24.
As God’s people shouldn’t we ask him to search us like David did? Shouldn’t we follow his instructions to pray and repent of any sin he reveals to us? Shouldn’t we do this, even as we pray for all people of the world, that God will heal our land (1 Timothy 2:1-2; 2 Chronicles 7:14)?
