SEEING GOD IN JESUS
Why do some people see God in Jesus, but others do not. The Bible says those who seek the Lord with all their heart shall find him (Jeremiah 29:13). Jesus said the pure in heart shall see God (Matthew 5:8). And he told his disciples that God the Father, who searches all hearts, determines who sees Jesus as the divine Son of God (Jeremiah 17:10; Matthew 16:16-17).
SEEING GOD IN JESUS ON THE CROSS
TWO CRIMINALS were crucified beside Jesus. One of them assailed Jesus, saying, if you are the Christ save yourself an us. The other criminal who recognized Jesus as the Christ said to Jesus, “remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus replied, “today you will be with me in paradise (Luke 23:39-43).
ROMAN SOLDIERS who were present when Jesus died on the cross, saw the earth quake and terrifying things happen—They said: “This man truly was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54).
SEEING GOD IN THE MIRACLES OF JESUS
A MAN BORN BLIND whom Jesus healed, believed that God was in Jesus, for no one had every healed a person that was born blind. However, some who saw this and other miracles Jesus did that no other person had done, still did not believe God was in Jesus doing this. (John 9:1-45; John 15:24).
LAZARUS, who had been dead for four days was raised back to life—Some saw this as God working through Jesus. Nevertheless, others did not believe. (John 11:17-51).
SEEING GOD IN JESUS’ RESURRECTION
THOMAS AND OTHER DISCIPLES saw Jesus after his resurrection. They believed in Jesus as “my Lord and my God.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-9; John 20:27-28). Yet some others would not believe–They lied saying the disciples of Jesus stole his dead body during the night ( Matthew 28:11-15).
HAVING A HEART TO SEE GOD IN JESUS
Jesus Christ, who is the Word of God in flesh (John 1:1-4), said he is God’ light of the world to whoever is born again (John 3:3)–having a heart to repent and believe in him as the Son of God (John 3:16; Acts 2:38). But he said some people’ hearts are darkened by the love of their ungodly lifestyles, so they do not choose to see him as God’s light (John 3:19). Yet, the redeeming love of God through his only begotten Son Jesus Christ is available to whoever has a heart of desire for the Lord (2 Peter 3:9).
