RELIABILITY AND RELEVANCY OF THE BIBLE
The Lord Jesus Christ affirmed the reliability and relevancy of the Bible. In the Bible Jesus demonstrated his authority from God, by performing miracles and fulfilling scriptural prophecies which no other person did (John 15:24; John 5:34-47). Moreover, Jesus quoted scriptures of the Bible and said mankind should live by every written word of God (Matthew 4:1-4). Nevertheless, some people doubt the reliability and relevance of the Bible. Peter and other apostles of the Lord said, we ought to believe and obey God rather than others (Acts 5:29).
WHY SOME SAY THEY DOUBT THE BIBLE
Some say Jesus Christ is not God’s ultimate authority and the only true way to God the Father. Many of them reason that the Bible has not kept pace with the changes in the world. They say knowledge has increased at a fast pace—Technology has changed the way people do things—Communication is global—Ideas from around the world cause people to have different views of religion—People of the world are connected socially and politically–Diverse cultures influence the thinking and behavior of people all over the globe- Essentially, they claim the archaic views and restrictive standards of behavior of the Bible are out of step with the thinking and behavior of most of the world today. However, Peter said, as believers, we should be ready to give doubters our reasons for believing and obeying the Bible as the Word of God (1 Peter 3:15).
REASONS FOR BELIEVING THE BIBLICAL WORD
The Bible has proven to be the inspired Word of God that equip believers to deal with all of life’s situations (2 Timothy 3:16-17). In the Bible, Jesus demonstrated that he has power which no other person has in most effectively dealing with life and all of its issues: He showed control over the physical universe, which modern science and technology lack control of even today. He calmed storms and raging seas— He manifested authority over higher powers of the spirit world–He healed all manner of incurable physical and mental illnesses–He raised people from the dead—He rose from the dead, after dying on a cross to save the world. Jesus showed that all power in heaven and earth is given to him (Matthews 18:15).
Jesus Christ left his heavenly home and came into this world to give his life that we might be free from our death-causing life of sin, and be reunited with God (Romans 3:23; Rom.6:23; John 3:16). Jesus said, he is the way, the truth and the life—the only way to the Father and heavenly happiness (John 14:6).
However, the Bible predicted the time would come when many people would turn away from the truth of Jesus Christ. And they would seek to satisfy their lusts and ungodly passions, following leaders who tell them what they want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3-4; 1 John 2:16).
Yet the Bible says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore” (Hebrews 13:8). Do you believe in the reliability and relevancy of the Bible?
