BEAR FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST
The Word of God encourages us to bear fruit of the Holy Spirit. Fruit of the Spirit cause us to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to become more like him (John 16:13-14). However, fruit of the flesh interferes with glorifying and becoming like the Lord. The Bible says we can know a tree, or the heart and spirit of a person, by the fruit it bears (Luke 6:43-45).
THE ACTS [FRUIT] OF THE FLESH are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21NIV).
The things of the flesh come from the devil, who is in opposition to God and his people. The devil tempts people to produce fruit of the flesh, which satisfies worldly passions; but ends in eternal destruction. (John 8:44; 1 John 2:16).This fruit is the opposite of the fruit which comes from the Holy Spirit, and leads to eternal life (Romans 6:23).
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:22-24NKJV).
When our heart is submitted to our Lord Jesus Christ and we are willing to obey the Word of God, the Holy Spirit helps us to overcome passions of the flesh and bear fruit of the Spirit. This enables us to glorify Jesus Christ and become more like him; and enjoy eternal life with our Lord and Savior.
Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit?
