God purposes that we testify about what we have personally seen of Jesus. The Holy Spirit designs our interacting with Jesus that we may personally see and testify about what we have experienced and seen of the Lord. Our personally testimonies glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
Having personally experienced and seen the Lord, there is much we might testify about him. We might testify about his saving power as the only begotten Son of God. We might testify of how he has drawn into a personal relationship with him. We might testy of how he has continually shown us love and forgiveness.
Some people in the Bible saw Jesus and testified about Him, and glorified Him
- Jesus had close interaction with his disciples. They later testified mightily about him being “both Lord and Christ” (Acts, Chapter 2)
- He talked to a Samaritan woman at a well. She was so impressed by him she went and told others that she had met the Messiah. And many of them believed that he was “indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world” (John 4:5-42).
- Many who saw him raise Lazarus from the dead, saw him as “the Resurrection and the Life” and went and told others. (John 11:19-45).
The Spirit has enable me to see Jesus, and is inspiring me to testify to others about Jesus:
- When I was child the HolySpirit helped me see Jesus through my godly grandmother
- I was able to see the love of Jesus dying on the cross for my sins, which drew me to him as my Lord and Savior
- When I went astray by falling into sin, the Lord rescued me
- After being rescued and forgiven, Jesus used me anew in his service
How I first Jesus saw through my godly grandmother when I was boy
When I was a boy, unknown to me, the Lord was using my grandmother, Julia, to teach me about him. My grandmother, whom all her grandchildren called “Mama,” sent me to Sunday school. She sat with her arms lovingly around me in church. After church she often had me read stories to her from the Bible. This opened up my understanding of and appreciation for the Word of God.
On one occasion when I was 10 years old, I was at church with her when I gave my heart to the Lord. I clearly remember the sermon in which Jesus told Nicodemus “you must be born again.” I remember being overwhelmed with emotion when I was before the preacher and he asked if I was sure I knew what I was doing. I knew for sure, although I was ten. Afterward, I remember the joy and excitement of being baptized in a creek and feeling the presence of the Lord.
The Lord used Mama in other ways to inspire me toward him. In the middle of many nights I would awaken and hear her talking to the Lord and praying for the family. I now talk to the Lord and pray for the family. Mama showed love and kindness to, and shared what she had with people in the neighborhood– including “misfits.” They all seem to enjoy being around her. Trying to help other, especially those in need is something I now enjoy doing for others and the Lord. Mama has gone be with the Lord. However, I often find myself saying and singing some the things she said and sang in her communing with the Lord:
“Walk with me and stand by me every step of the way.”—I usually say this when I get up in the morning — before I start my day.
“Take the name of Jesus with you, child of sorrow and of woe; It will joy and comfort give you, take it then where’er you go…”
“When the storms of life are raging stand by me…”
I have more to say about how the Holy Spirit has enabled me to experience Jesus, and testify about what I have seen. In other of my writings, I plan to share what I have experienced in walking with and learning about a him. With the help of the HollySpirit, my testifying about Jesus may benefit others.
How has the Holy Spirit enabled you as a believer to experience Jesus, and make you his witness? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
If you have not believed in and accepted Jesus into your life, it is by God’s design that you have heard about him from others that have seen and believed in him. This is so that you might believe in him and be born again (John 6:44; John 20:24-31; John 3:16). You can ask Jesus to come into your life by praying: “Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God who came and died for my sins on the cross; and I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior.”
If you have prayed this way or some similar way from your heart, God heard you and Jesus is now in your life. You can now tell others about him being your Lord and Savior.
